Description:

Slovácko wine sub-region is renowned for a wide range of wine varieties and advanced culture of small vintners. Villages in this rolling country produce full-bodied wines with fresh character and distinctive variety aroma. The first part of the trail from Čejč to Čejkovice runs through the region of T.G. Masaryk, the first Czech president. Several-year stay of the president-liberator is commemorated by the Masaryk’s trail as well memorial tablets in both villages. Behind Čejč the Moravian wine trail turns off the road to unique steppe localities, so-called Špidláky, and then comes to the centre of Čejkovice near its Templar stronghold with wine cellars. Leaving Čejkovice the trail follows on to Starý Poddvorov, rated among the most beautiful on the trail. Mostly unpaved trail surface runs along the countryside relief and spectacular views to the valley flavour your relaxing ride at the foot of vineyards and fields.

The area, which is densely interwoven with local wine trails, is characterized by the variety of trail surfaces and changeable landscape. Above Starý Poddvorov, the Moravian wine trail turns towards a forest, in whose shade it runs parallel with a long-distance bike trail no. 412 Břeclav – Hradec Králové. The forest road, difficult to ride in wet conditions, is followed by a field road running down to the village of Mutěnice, which is one of the centres of wine-making in Slovácko region. Wine growing area Pod Búdama feature plant and figural motifs on wine cellar entrances and facades. A local folklore artist Ján Lacko scraped them out in the plaster on a red brown background. Today, nearly 500 cellars form a picturesque wine village with street names, a pub, and several guesthouses. Although the following ten kilometres through Dubňany to Ratíškovice runs along the road, you can see a variety of small religious sights and the trail here anything but boring. The trail sign behind Ratíškovice shows the way to an interesting project of a pedal rail trolley and a museum “On bike on rail to a canal”, which you can visit, if you turn right and go along the former Baťa railway.

The Moravian wine trail runs through the broken relief of the landscape and a dense network of hard surface field roads in the area of Kyjovské Dolňácko. In the first part, three significant wine cellar colonies are to be found. They represent typical cellar structures in the region and advanced small wine-growing culture. Slavín in Ratíškovice among vineyards under Náklo hill as well as Žlébky in Vacenovice are among the youngest wine facilities in Moravia; however, the legendary Šidleny in Milotice, which you can reach turning to the Mutěnická wine trail form the centre of the village, remembers adobe houses with thatched roofs above deep cellars. Nowadays, it is a lively wine colony where you can enjoy the uniqueness and taste variety of wines in Slovácko. However, your stay in Milotice should not end only with the visit of Šidleny. There is Písečný Rybník Lake near the village, a remarkable example of rural Baroque church of All Saints, and a Romantic chateau. The display of cellar structures is complemented by búdy (cellars) in Skoronice and a large colony at the edge of an oak and hornbeam forest Chrást not far from Vlkoš.

The last fifteen kilometres runs mainly along cycle trails and offers several interesting non-wine-growing sights. The town of Kyjov is a cultural and social centre of the region and its museum and Renaissance townhall are unique buildings in Slovácko region. St. Wenceslas church with Romanesque foundations in nearby Kostelec is a dominant sight in Kyjov region and a valuable religious landmark. In Vlkoš you may have a look at the Military museum of the native General S.J. Ingr. At the end of the trip along the wine trail running through Slovácko region is Bzenec – a town with an old castle, neo-Gothic chateau, medieval Jewish cemetery and a thousand-year-old linden tree which gave name to well-known Bzenecká lipka, Rhine Riesling wine harvested from the best vineyards in the town and its near vicinity.
